Problem: No Tray Icon on Linux

Note: This problem only affects older Linux systems.

After installing FAUbox on a Linux System with a Window Manager that does not support xembed.

This is an issue concerning the interoperability of Java and the Window Manager’s subsystem to display Tray Icons.

Step by Step

There are two ways around this.

  1. Always show the FAUbox Main window
    1. Stop the FAUbox client
    2. Edit the Client Configuration File an add the parameter pref.ExpertMode=true
    3. Start the FAUbox client
  2. Use wmsystemtray to view the Tray Icon
    1. Stop the FAUbox client
    2. Install wmsystemtray
    3. Run wmsystemtray --nowmaker --bgcolor white
    4. Start the FAUbox client
