Client Log Files

The server log files provide valuable information, for example when having problems:

  • Activating clients
  • Synchronizing files

Enabling logging in the client preferences

Logging is enabled by default. To disable logging:

  1. Click on Preferences.
  2. Unmark the checkbox next to Enable Logging.
  3. Click on OK. The client will now ask for a restart.

Log files location on Windows operating systems

On Windows operating systems the FAUbox log files are located in one of the following directories:

  • Windows XP / 2003 / 2003 R2: <System Drive>\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\FAUbox\logs
  • Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 2008 / 2008 R2 / 2012 / 2012 R2: <System Drive>\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\FAUbox\logs

When running the client as a system service the log files are located in one of the following directories:

  • Windows XP / 2003 / 2003 R2: <System Drive>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FAUbox\logs
  • Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 2008 / 2008 R2 / 2012 / 2012 R2: <System Drive>\ProgramData\FAUbox\logs

(Warnung) Please note: Application Data and AppData are hidden directories. Make sure you have enabled to view hidden files and directories in the Windows Explorer settings!

Log files location on Linux / OS X / Unix operating systems

On Linux / OS X / Unix operating systems the FAUbox log files are located here:

  • ~/.FAUbox/logs

Some OS X operating systems hide these folders by default. To be able to view this folder follow these steps:

  1. Click on Go –> Utilities and double click the Terminal app.EMaclogs1 EMaclogs2
  2. Type this line into the Terminal app and press return/enter:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES”Maclogs3
  3. Now type the following line and press return/enter again:
    “killall Finder”Maclogs4
  4. You can now see the hidden “.Folders” in the User directory.EMaclogs5

If FAUbox is run as a different user as the currently logged in:

  • /home/<user>/.FAUbox/logs (Linux)
  • /Users/<user>/.FAUbox/logs (OS X)

(Warnung) Please note: .FAUbox is a hidden directory.

Sending log files to FAUbox Support

When our support requests the log files of FAUbox, please make sure you include the log files from the date on which the problem occurred. Please also restart the client and send us the log file from the current date to check if there are any configuration problems. Those problems will mostly only occur, when the client is being restarted.
